For the series “Außenseiten”, a collaborative project with the Haus am Wehrsteg, comic artist Thomas Ott engaged with the work of Rudolf Liemberger (“Max”) presented in the exhibition. As an artistic response to Liemberger’s small-format pencil drawing of a human figure, Ott created the depiction of a gigantic shadowy creature – a golem rising above the city. This work will be printed on a large tarpaulin and displayed on the façade of the Haus am Wehrsteg starting in June.

About “Außenseiten”

Since 2022, the Haus am Wehrsteg and the Prinzhorn Collection have invited comic artists to respond artistically to works and artists from the Prinzhorn Collection. The resulting pieces are printed on tarpaulins measuring 6.5 by 4.5 meters and were originally exhibited monthly – since 2023, biannually – on the tower of the Haus am Wehrsteg art center, thus placing them prominently in the public space of Heidelberg. The participating artists (Anke Feuchtenberger, Anna Haifisch, Wolfgang Klee, Lucie Langston, Mawil, Henning Wagenbreth, Reinhard Kleist, Mehrdad Zaeri, and Jens Harder) reflect current trends in the German comic and graphic novel scene.

The project is accompanied by a podcast series featuring interviews with the artists and curators. Available at: creators.spotify.com/pod/show/aussenseiten
